To prohibit the display by a store of more than the last four digits of a customer’s credit or debit card account number, or the card’s expiration date on a merchandise receipt, subject to a fine of up to $1,000. The bill is part of a legislative package comprised of Senate Bills 220, 657, 792, 793, 795, 797, 798, 803 and House Bills 6168 to 6177.

To replace the previous version of the bill with one which would also prohibit requiring a consumer to disclose his or her social security number as a condition of purchasing goods or services, unless the transaction includes an extension of credit, or the disclosure is otherwise required by state or federal law. The substitute also provides some exceptions to the prohibition on diplaying a full credit card number on a receipt, and delays the ban until July 1, 2006 for receipts printed by an electronic device.
