Introduced in the House

April 9, 2002

Introduced by Rep. Barb Vander Veen (R-89)

To expand the “whistleblower” protection given to health care workers who report to the government a problem in a health facility, including hospitals and nursing homes, related to public health, safety or welfare, if they have reported the condition in writing to the facility and given it at least 60 days to fix the problem. Current law protects those who disclose violations of law. The bill would extend this to disclosure of unsafe practices.

Substitute offered

To replace the previous version of the bill with one which limits its application to hospitals but not nursing homes.

The substitute passed by voice vote
