2023 House Resolution 157

A resolution to declare October 22-28, 2023, as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Awareness Week in Michigan.

Whereas, At least four million children, or five percent of the pediatric population, and at least nine million adults, or four percent of the adult population, in the United States have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); and

Whereas, Research shows that ADHD is the result of an imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain. The primary symptoms of ADHD are inattention, impulsiveness, and hyperactivity; and

Whereas, ADHD has been recognized as a legitimate diagnosis of neurological disorder by the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, the United States Department of Education, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute of Mental Health, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare October 22-28, 2023, as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Awareness Week in the state of Michigan.
