2022 Senate Bill 877

Expand public safety employee illness presumptions

Introduced in the Senate

Feb. 16, 2022

Introduced by Sen. Jon Bumstead (R-34)

To more conditions to extend to respiratory and heart diseases a presumption that any specified diseases or medical conditions that develop during the future lives of firefighters and other specified government employees are due their government employment for purposes of granting these former workers disability benefits. A 2014 law did this for paid firefighters, and the presumption has been expanded to more categories of government employees over the past 20 years (most recently “forest fire officers" and “fire/crash rescue officers” in 2021).
