2021 Senate Bill 297

Republican election rules Republican election rules package to establish rules on the use of absentee ballot drop boxes by cities and townships

Introduced in the Senate

March 24, 2021

Introduced by Sen. Ed McBroom (R-38)

To require that when county election canvassers are canvassing the returns of votes after an election, at least one member from each political party represented must be present during the entire process. Also, to require the board of county canvassers to approve each assistant the county clerk hires to assist in the process, with at least one board member from both parties agreeing. Election law gives county canvasser boards the duty to “conduct all recounts of elections in cities, townships, villages, school districts, metropolitan districts, or any other districts.” This is part of a Republican election integrity package comprised of Senate Bills 273 to 311.
