2021 House Bill 5500

Revise cost control provision in reformed auto insurance law

Introduced in the House

Oct. 28, 2021

Introduced by Rep. Robert Bezotte (R-47)

To reduce caps on the amount of reimbursement an auto insurer must cover for long term attendant or nursing care to crash victims. The bill limit the restrictions to “medical” care only. Abuse of similar provisions in the previous unreformed auto insurance law were said to be a prime contributor to this state’s prohibitively high auto insurance rates.
