2020 House Bill 5819

Repeal licensure mandate on barbers and cosmetologists

Introduced in the House

May 28, 2020

Introduced by Rep. Matt Maddock (R-44)

To repeal the licensure and training mandates, fees and other state restrictions limiting individuals who want to cut hair or provide cosmetology services for a living. Among many other provisions the law prohibits an individual from earning a living in this trade unless he or she takes 1,800 hours of instruction at a “licensed barber college,” with similar restrictions on cosmetology services.
