2006 House Bill 6203

Establish a government "Amistad Commission"

Introduced in the House

June 14, 2006

Introduced by Rep. Michael Murphy (D-68)

To establish a government "Amistad Commission" to survey, design, encourage, and promote on a continuous basis education and awareness programs concerned with the African slave trade, slavery in America, the vestiges of slavery in this country, and the contributions of African-Americans in building our country through "workshops," institutes, seminars, and other teacher training activities designed to educate teachers on this subject. It would also coordinate events throughout the state on a regular basis that provide appropriate memorialization of the events concerning the enslavement of Africans and their descendants in America and their struggle for freedom, liberty, and equality.
