2019 Senate Bill 668: Expand school lunch payment restrictions
Introduced by Sen. Jim Ananich D-Flint on December 4, 2019
To prohibit a public school from publicly identifying a student who can’t pay or owes money for a school lunch by requiring the student to have a wristband, handstamp, alternative meal, or by requiring the student to perform chores or other work. Schools would be prohibited from communicating about this with a student less than age 15, and instead would have to contact a parent or guardian. Schools would also have to provide a “US Department of Agriculture reimbursable meal” to any student who requests a meal, regardless of a pupil's ability to pay.   Official Text and Analysis.
Referred to the Senate Education and Career Readiness Committee on December 4, 2019
