2017 House Bill 4431

Expand legislative subpoena power

Introduced in the House

March 29, 2017

Introduced by Rep. Joseph Graves (R-51)

To give legislative committees the power to subpoena and investigate records of local governments, authorities, school districts and community colleges, rather than just state departments, boards, institutions, and agencies. One member of the party in the minority would have to agree. The bill would also limit committee subpoena power to the agencies or entities whose audits are directed to a particular committee. The full legislature would retain the more expansive subpoena powers though.
