2022 House Bill 5805

Democratic union/labor package – fiscally failed school districts

Introduced in the House

Feb. 23, 2022

Introduced by Rep. Brenda Carter (D-29)

To remove from the state law mandating that government agencies negotiate collective bargaining agreements (union contracts) a provision addressing the status of fiscally-failed school districts that were placed under a form of state receivership. This is part of a multi-bill package introduced by Democrats in the state House and Senate that would roll-back limitations enacted since the 1990s on the power of public employee unions, and on the authority of public schools and government employers to seek various cost-saving provisions or grant cost-raising provisions in union labor contracts.
