2018 Senate Bill 895

Revise wrongful imprisonment compensation procedures

Introduced in the Senate

March 8, 2018

Introduced by Sen. Steve Bieda (D-9)

To revise details of the state’s revised judicature law to remove apparent obstacles it presents to implementing a 2016 law that authorized payment of $50,000 for each year of wrongful imprisonment served by a person who did not commit the crime. This bill was introduced after several court rulings prevented eligible individuals from collecting.
