2018 Senate Bill 1205: Increase MESSA and other school insurance claims data disclosures

Public Act 579 of 2018

Introduced by Sen. Phil Pavlov R-Saint Clair on November 27, 2018
To establish that public employers with 50 or more employees in a health insurance plan (instead of 100 employees under current law) would have to be provided by the insurer with claims utilization and cost information in an electronic, spreadsheet compatible format useful for comparison shopping; and also revise the information that must be included in these reports. This is likely targeted at the MESSA insurance subsidiary of the state's largest teachers union (the MEA), which administers insurance sold to many school districts.   Official Text and Analysis.
