2018 House Bill 5865

Authorize rules for electric “microgrids”

Introduced in the House

April 24, 2018

Introduced by Rep. Steven Johnson (R-72)

To require the Public Service Commission to authorize and establish statewide interconnection standards for “microgrids.” This is a small group of electricity users with their own generation source connected to the main electric grid through a single interconnection, but also capable of providing power to users if that connection is disrupted (“island mode”). The bill would require the PSC to submit a report on the concept and convene an advisory panel consisting of individuals representing various interests specified in the bill (including unions, environmentalist organizations, utilities, local governments, consumers, etc.).
