2015 Senate Bill 495

Revise telemedicine insurance restriction

Introduced in the Senate

Sept. 16, 2015

Introduced by Sen. Rebekah Warren (D-18)

To revise insurance code details to facilitate “telemedicine” services. Specifically, the bill would require insurers to include reimbursement for “asynchronous store and forward action,” which means sending data to a health care provider for later review. Under current law insurers are prohibited from reimbursing telemedicine services from a health care provider who is not licensed or “authorized” to practice in Michigan, and this restriction would not be changed.
