2012 Senate Bill 1312

Include live-in boyfriends and girlfriends in child custody decisions

Introduced in the Senate

Sept. 25, 2012

Introduced by Sen. Rick Jones (R-24)

To revise details the “best interest of the child” criteria used in child custody disputes, and update or codify other definitions including “abandonment,” “emotional abuse,” “medical neglect” and others. Among other things the bill would apply “best interest of the child” criteria to unmarried parents’ live-in boyfriends or girlfriends, making them subject to court-ordered “treatment” just like the parent, with failure to comply grounds for suspending the parent’s “visitation” rights with a child.
