2010 House Bill 6198

Revise auto dealer protectionism law

Introduced in the House

May 20, 2010

Introduced by Rep. Marty Knollenberg (R-41)

To revise the protectionist restrictions imposed on vehicle manufacturers that limit their ability to consolidate dealerships. The bill would establish that if a manufacturer goes out of business and its assets or brands are acquired by a different manufacturer, the new owner would be bound by the similar restrictions, including a mandate to give former dealers a right of first refusal when opening any new dealerships, or else to pay off the dealer or his or her survivor if deceased.
