2021 Senate Bill 235

Expand open records law to legislators and governor’s office

Introduced in the Senate

March 11, 2021

Introduced by Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-11)

To establish procedures for appealing a denial by the House or Senate open records law coordinator of a Freedom of Information Act request submitted to the legislature, or the fees demanded to fulfill it. Appeals would go not to the courts but to an existing Legislative Council appointed by legislature itself, which would have final say on whether the information will be provided. This is part of a package comprised of Senate Bills 233 to 241 that would extend the state’s open records law to the legislature, subject to a range of exceptions and exemptions..

Referred to the Committee on Oversight

March 24, 2021

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the bill pass.
