2020 House Bill 5497

Remove limitations, prescribe procedures on school retiree “double dipping”

Introduced in the House

Feb. 19, 2020

Introduced by Rep. Sheryl Kennedy (D-48)

To replace a number of specific situations in which public schools may employ retired school employees for certain hard-to-fill assignments, who then continue to collect a state pension alongside their current pay. The bill would allow schools to do this at their discretion, and prescribe the terms and conditions of such arrangements, including a requirement to keep paying on any unfunded retirement benefit liabilities associated with an employee.
