2019 Senate Bill 485

Revise state whistleblower law

Introduced in the Senate

Sept. 4, 2019

Introduced by Sen. Sylvia Santana (D-3)

To expand a state whistleblower law so it prohibits a company from threatening to fire an employee who reports not just a violation of law but also a planned violation, or orders to participate in one or in a cover up. The bill would also extend this law’s protections to independent contractors and prospective employees, and would also authorize sharing with a whistleblower part of any money recovered by the state as a result of a report.
