2019 House Bill 4607

Lyme disease response package

Introduced in the House

May 16, 2019

Introduced by Rep. Karen Whitsett (D-9)

To mandate that a licensed medical service provider who orders a laboratory test for Lyme disease must also order an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test and a western blot assay test, and must give the patient written materials on Lyme disease and testing, before the tests are performed. These materials must include information on available treatment options, a list of physicians with expertise, symptoms and complications, and specific information on testing issues. Along with House Bill 4605 this bill would also exempt a medical care professional who administers a long-term antibiotic for Lyme disease from disciplinary actions that might otherwise apply.
