2019 House Bill 4526

Authorize hospital “baby boxes” in surrendered newborn law

Introduced in the House

April 30, 2019

Introduced by Rep. Julie Brixie (D-69)

To revise provisions of the public health code that prescribe procedures for reporting the death of a newborn. The revisions would reflect the proposal in House Bills 4523 and 4524 to authorize using “newborn safety devices” at hospitals under the “safe delivery of newborns” law enacted in 2000, which provides legal protections to a mother who surrenders a newborn to an emergency service provider.
