2018 House Bill 5599

Impose additional duties and requirements on teachers colleges

Introduced in the House

Feb. 20, 2018

Introduced by Rep. Daniela Garcia (R-90)

To mandate that state-approved teacher colleges must provide a warranty program for graduates who get a job as a teacher but within two years are determined by their employer to “lack the skills to effectively teach students.” The bill would require the college to take the prospective teacher back at no cost to try again in a “warranty education program”.

Referred to the Committee on Education Reform

March 22, 2018

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the substitute (H-2) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
