2009 House Bill 5009

Revise rule against "perpetuities”

Introduced in the House

May 26, 2009

Introduced by Rep. Tonya Schuitmaker (R-80)

To revise the 2008 law that exempted personal property held in certain trusts from the law against "perpetuities,” which is a legal doctrine intended to prevent assets from being tied-up in long-term family or "dynasty" trusts. The bill would exclude “special appointee trusts” from the scope of that exemption law.
