2007 House Bill 4732

Revise peace officer liquor license restriction

Introduced in the House

May 9, 2007

Introduced by Rep. Virgil Smith (D-7)

To revise a state ban on law enforcement officers (or their spouses) having a liquor license, so that they would only be banned from having a license for an establishment within the area of their jurisdiction as a law enforcement officer.

Referred to the Committee on Regulatory Reform

May 29, 2007

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the substitute (H-2) be adopted and that the bill then pass. This version would limit the bill's effect to Detroit (defined as "a city with a population greater that 500,000), and limits it to police officers who are not involved directly or indirectly with the enforcement of liquor laws.
