2004 House Bill 5773

Assure no-fault auto insurance coverage

Introduced in the House

April 20, 2004

Introduced by Rep. David Woodward (D-26)

To require the Secretary of State to implement a system for cross-checking vehicle registrations and no-fault insurance coverage to ensure that all vehicles are insured, and to and place a magnetic strip on drivers licenses containing the insurance status information. Under Michigan’s no-fault insurance law drivers are required to have insurance to register and operate a vehicle, but there is no system to monitor whether the insurance is cancelled after registration.
