Ban surveillance by "Alexa," "Siri," etc.

Introduced in the Senate

Dec. 10, 2019

Introduced by Sen. Jim Runestad (R-15)

To revise the law against illegal surveillance of a person by specifying that it applies to surveillance “whether by physical or technological means, in a present or future time, whether or not the individual is aware of the presence of a device or the capabilities of that device to record, store a recording, or be remotely accessed…including by accessing a device through technological means.” This law authorizes criminal penalties of up to four years in prison in some circumstances, and the bill could potentially apply to devices and services like “Siri,” “Alexa,” etc.
