2009 House Bill 4815

Revise aquatic weed control special assessment detail

Introduced in the House

April 21, 2009

Introduced by Rep. Brian Calley (R-87)

To establish that a township may levy a special assessment for the eradication or control of aquatic weeds and plants on a lake, stream, pond, etc., unless a petition is signed against it by 20 percent of the property owners with deeded access to the water, rather than the current standard of 20 percent in the “special assessment district.” (Under current law, if 20 percent object to a township special assessment, it cannot be imposed unless 50 percent of property owners sign a petition in favor of it.) The aquatic weeds levy would be imposed on a flat-rate, per-parcel basis.

Referred to the Committee on Intergovernmental, Urban, and Regional Affairs
